2019 was my favorite Consensus week yet -- many of my crypto friends, colleagues, project partners, collaborators, and people I learn from daily were in a single place
A thread on #consensus2019
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
This is the first year I didn't pick up my conference badge. Instead, I took meetings -- most scheduled but some random from the magic of #Consensus2019 bringing us all together for a week -- and hung around at #atomicswapnyc, #TokenSummit, the @coincenter dinner, and #KryptoNYC.
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
Also, the #DAS2019 dinner on Tues night from @BlockWorksGroup which was wonderful.
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
My 2017 experience was highlighted by the EOS rooftop party in Times Square. I also had great chats w/the early Livepeer team and Arthur of Bitmex at the Consensus reception.
2018 was THE BOAT.

2019 was my favorite Consensus week yet -- many of my crypto friends, colleagues, @storecoin project partners, intellectual sparring partners, major future collaborators, and people I learn from daily were in a single place AND I COULD CHAT WITH THEM IN PERSON. So I did!
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
Before I highlight some of my favorite conversations from the week just so I can remember how great the week was, my absolute favorite was a brief chat with my 8-month old daughter Kennedy while on my way to King Kong. She melted me. ๐ญ pic.twitter.com/SpxWPE1rNQ

I come into NYC early Monday AM on the red eye after celebrating my wife Ciara's first mother's day with a Sunday picnic in the Presidio.
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
Upon hotel arrival, I almost pick up my conference badge but begin running into crypto friends like @mg and @IvanOnTech. Then, I'm in back-to-back meetings with exchanges throughout NYC. Finally back to the hotel, @btschiller and I enjoy a ๐ฅ discussing the future of journalism.
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
I head to the the "after party" with my friend @BrooksDudley, an original Doge miner and one of the leads on Bitcoin futures. We randomly met last year at a rooftop event where, along with @BandmanJeff, had 10pm steaks in NYC.
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
And luckily, I ran into Jeff again at #AtomicSwapNY.
The after party was like being back in college! Discussions about planting a Bitcoin flag at CoinCenter HQ with @NeerajKA, on that crazy Jan 2018 Gervers speech in Switzerland with @ArthurB, and on consensus mechanisms with @sunnya97. I left early -- crypto people can really rage
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
Tuesday was strategy w/long-time partners and friends @thomashoward, @AriMNazir, and @JLawlerCal. Then more strategy with @Rewkang.
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
I was finally able to answer emails and review research from our team as well. CTO Rag invented some brilliant UI on tokenized data marketplaces!
Then the #DASdinner from @JasonYano and the @BlockWorksGroup! @nic__carter and I went deep on security models and governance. @josh_harbor and I discussed tokenizing an e-sports team (cc: @IamTrevorMay). @Travis_Kling and I shared some thoughts on "pre-mines as bad/good/both". pic.twitter.com/1OMGAUUcap
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
I nerded out with @polina_marinova on her recent tour de force article on KP (https://t.co/h4Ln19Oanf), stratetgized w/long-time partner @pomp, and discussed the state of crypto development w/@ParityTech CEO @jutta_steiner who also convinced me to visit Berlin Blockchain Week.
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
On Weds, I headed over to #atomicswapnyc from @BreakerMag and @TheBlock__ where on the walk over I shoot some response tweets to @jbrukh on crypto governance only to run into him in the lobby where we continue the conversation. This ๐ฎ only happens at #NYBlockchainWeek!
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
#AtomicSwapNY was awesome. The intelligence per square foot in that room was insane + @WilliamShatner retweeted me.
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
Great chats w/@PeterMcCormack, @mdudas, @valkenburgh, @YanLiberman, @angela_walch, @BandmanJeff, @NeerajKA, @btschiller, @teo_leibowitz, @fintechfrank, and more. pic.twitter.com/Zyu2BQAzdV
I've been on a quest to build a @storecoin community in Asia, specifically Japan and South Korea. So when I found out @ekang426 was hosting #KryptoNYC in soho, I brought the @BreakerMag crew and @liz_bagot along for a 30 min Uber ride where it's clear I listen to dad tunes. ๐
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
I wrapped up the night at the nearby @BrandyLibrary with long-time friend, @data4america board member, @storecoin governance peer reviewer, and one hell of a guy @craig_montuori.
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
#tokensummit on Thurs! At this point, I'm in need of a salad but one more day to go and the lobby + reception at this one is where the really sharp crypto investors and builders converge.
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
The governance panel w/@jaekwon, @lrettig, @ameensol, @gitcoin, and @wmougayar was v legit.
.@nlw, a long-time collaborator, is a true rockstar and force-for-good in the crypto space. We went deep on a bunch of stuff in between his many fans coming up to say hello.
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
We brainstormed #GovCon from @storecoin and managed to pique the interest of @twobitidiot and @jbrukh ๐.
At #TokenSummit, I enjoyed chats with @ekang426 on bridging Asia and the west, @_TomHoward on #defi, @benhoneill on crypto data, and @muneeb on consensus algos.
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
I finally met two of my favorite builders @petkanics and @santisiri as well.
And ๐ STORE advisor @michaelterpin.
And then I was done for the day so went to King Kong! It was epic!! pic.twitter.com/qRwNwtkfRy
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
I mean, the King was 20 feet tall and operated by 7+ people clad in black. Felt like a blockbuster movie. Highly recommend ๐ฆ. pic.twitter.com/CjlFNkU08l
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
Night was still young so I headed over to the @BroadwayComedy to watch "Date Me, Do Me, Dump Me -- The Musical". pic.twitter.com/jcfwLzutif
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
It was legit hilarious. pic.twitter.com/7ryTojyaeV
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
Today (Fri), I took a final meeting with a leading exchange in the morning, packed up, got into my flight back to SF, and tweet journaled along the way.
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
Shout out to @coindesk for anchoring the week with #Consensus2019.
See you next year #NYBlockchainWeek. Wheels up! ๐ซ
Also, shout-out to @TaylorPearsonMe who tweeted out what I think is the smartest thing said all week.
— McCoy (@chrisamccoy) May 17, 2019
This is why p2p databases and tokenized networks (crypto/blockchain) are suctioning in very smart people at a very rapid rate.
Still the 1st inning. ๐ pic.twitter.com/GGdYKlBk0z
